Summertime Moving: How to Beat the Heat

At Satori Flats apartments in Avon Indiana, residents have been spending a lot of time at the pool this summer. That makes sense, considering June 2019 was the hottest June on record, and the ensuing July heatwave put a strain on air-conditioners throughout Indiana and beyond. 


Hopefully, August will be tolerable, but if you’re planning to move anytime soon, be prepared for hot weather. Here’s how you can beat the heat:

Hydrate and Rest

Drinking plenty of water on moving day can help prevent dehydration. But if you spend too much time in the sun and heat, you can still become dehydrated, regardless of your water intake. 


When it’s hot outside, try to take a break in an air-conditioned space for about 15 minutes of every hour. Be alert for signs of dehydration, such as nausea, dizziness, confusion, headache, and muscle cramps. If your friends are helping you move, make sure they take breaks, too. 


Boost your hydration efforts by snacking on foods with high water content – watermelon, cucumbers, and strawberries, for example.

Dress for Success

Loose-fitting, light-colored cotton or linen clothing will help you stay cool on moving day. (Make sure you’ve got at least one pocket in which to put random odds and ends you find underneath furniture). Keep the sun off of your face and neck with a wide-brimmed hat. 


Protect your toes – don’t wear flip-flops or open-toed shoes. Wear a pair of canvas sneakers instead. A pair of garden gloves with a grippy surface on the fingers and palms can help you hold onto items, even if your hands start to sweat. 

Wind Down
